Amongst the most noted in the old days were the
hand-painted resist dyed cloths known as the Coromandel
chintz which made history in the then known world.
Originally made in Golconda, near Hyderabad City,
they spread along the eastern coast up to Tamil Nadu
taking its name, with Masulipattam as its chief port.
These were made on cotton with a dazzling array of
exotic flowers and foliage mostly in red, blue, purple,
yellow and black. Kalahasti in Andhra Pradesh is noted
for its kalamkari now called after the place.
