Garments- Women's Wear

Yellow
Yellows came in all sorts of unusual tones in the Spring Summer 2009 Milan shows, Burberry, Marni, and Bottega Veneta featured yellow in combination with grays, browns, and oranges.

Paper Bag Waistlines
Waistlines were cinched to create paper bag effects at Bottega Veneta and Salvatore Ferragamo.

Floral Appliqués
Spring - Summer 2009's florals were in the form of appliqués, seen at D&G as an accessory and at Dolce and Gabanna and Fendi as all-over decoration

 

Iridescent Fabrics
Evening wear looks featured a lot of iridescent fabrics, seen as satins at Dolce and Gabanna and Moschino, and on light organzas at Fendi.

Textured Metallics and Shine
Like the other cities, Paris' catwalks had a great deal of metallic and iridescent fabrics, most noticeably the textured metallics and shiny textiles at Chanel, Balenciaga and Balmain.

Jean Paul Gaultier, Celine, and Chanel showed fashion forward one-piece swimsuits in their collections.

Bow Belts
With the emphasis on the waist continuing to be a key part of the fashion silhouette, many designers embellished their pieces with bow detailing on the waist or belt, emphasizing the femininity of this silhouette.

The Future Warrior was seen on many Paris catwalks for Spring Summer 2009, Balenciaga, Gareth Pugh, and Balmain all used armor shapes in their collections, redesigned and reconditioned to create modern armies of women.



Garments- Men's Wear

Geometric Quilting
Carrying on from the "Trousergate" scandal in Milan, quilting was a major finish on the Paris catwalks, but in geometric shapes, seen on jackets and trousers.

Berry Tones
Raspberry, Cherry, and Cranberry tones were used in key pieces and as accents.

Artisan Knits
Statement knit pieces by Ann Demeulemeester, Yohji Yamamoto, and Junya Watanabe all had an artisan, hand-crafted feel.
